Why the GCC does staycations better than anywhere

The five inclusions that actually matter
Beach or pool club access is the single highest-value inclusion.
Kids-stay-free and connecting rooms decide most family bookings.
- Late checkout (4pm or later). Turns a one-night booking into two usable days. Worth more than any dining credit.
- Beach or pool club access. Day passes run AED 200–400 per person in Dubai; bundled, it's free.
- Breakfast for two. AED/QAR 120–200 per head at five-star buffets — always take it in the package.
- Dining or spa credit. Useful only if it's redeemable across outlets with no minimum spend. Read the small print.

Booking timing: the rules that hold across the Gulf
- Book midweek, stay midweek. Sunday–Tuesday check-ins run 25–40% below Thursday–Friday in every GCC city.
- Summer is the bargain, not the punishment. June–September rates drop 35–55%, and every resort is fully air-conditioned, indoor-heavy and running kids' programming.
- Avoid event weekends unless the event is why you're going — Grand Prix, major conferences and concert weekends can triple rates within a 5km radius.
- Two weeks out is usually the floor. GCC hotels release unsold weekend inventory 10–20 days ahead rather than discounting months in advance.
Watch the fees, not the nightly rate
A headline AED 450 room in Dubai lands closer to AED 570 once you add the Tourism Dirham, 10% municipality fee, 10% service charge and 5% VAT. Doha and Riyadh add their own service and VAT layers.
